Practical software that puts barcodes to work

The WIP Data Capture System

Are you spending too much time tracking down the status of orders in your production area? Would you like to have more complete and accurate data for tracking job costs? The WIP Data Capture System provides an effective and economical tool for tracking Work In Process on the shop floor. The WIP system is simpler and far less expensive than full-blown industrial management systems, yet it has been a successful solution for operations of all sizes: users range from small job shops to one of the major international heavy-duty truck manufacturers.

Example of a WIP data capture screen.
The layout of WIP data capture screens is centrally controlled by a system administrator. Any number of separate screen layouts may be defined to accomodate the needs of different departments within a facility.

The WIP System collects real-time production data at multiple workstations. As jobs are received and processed at each station, the operator uses a barcode scanner to enter information about the job. The date, time, and workstation identification are captured automatically by the software; other data fields are defined by the system manager (job number and operation code, for example). The data captured at the workstation are stored on a central network database and the WIP Job Track program (included) provides an updated display of current production activity, including elapsed time for each operation and alerts if jobs run over the estimated time. Data can be exported to spreadsheets format for further analysis, or read directly from the database file by other software.

Example of a WIP Job Track screen.
The Job Track program continuously monitors information arriving from the production area. The current status of all jobs is available at a glance; color coding highlights jobs that are running over the estimated time.

The WIP Data Capture System provides and effective and economical way to improve efficiency and reduce costs:
  • Monitor progress of orders
  • Locate any job quickly
  • Record accurate work times for cost analysis

Included with the WIP system:
  • WIPConfig software for defining capture screens
  • WIPCapture software for collecting data
  • WIPJobTrack software for monitoring jobs
  • A set of Code 39 TrueType fonts for printing barcodes

System Requirements:
  • Microsoft Windows operating system (2000/XP/Vista/7)
  • Microsoft Windows .Net Framework 2.0
  • Shared network folder to hold central databases

Licensing:
WIP Data Capture System licenses are based on the number of data records collected during a day. A WIP license is restricted to a single site or facility (including multi-building campuses that share a common LAN); there is no restriction on the number of computers within the site on which the software may be installed. A base license for the WIP system has a limit of 250 data records per day. Additional capacity may be purchased in blocks of 250 records/day at any time and added to an existing license. An unlicensed copy of the WIP system, which has a limit of 25 data records per day, can be downloaded and used for free. It serves as a demonstration of the software, and can be used in small operations where the limit of 25 records per day is adequate.

Pricing:
    Unlicensed (25 records/day)...  Free
    Base License (250 records/day)...  $495
    Additional 250 records/day...  $400
