The Work in Progress Data Capture System uses barcodes to collect real-time production
data at multiple workstations. As jobs are received and processed at each station, the
operator uses a barcode scanner to enter information about the job. The date, time, and
workstation identification are captured automatically by the software; other data fields
are defined by the system manager. The data captured at the workstation is
automatically stored on a central network MS Access database. From there, the data can be
integrated into other software packages.
The type of data captured and the appearance of operator screens
are centrally controlled by the system manager. The system supports multiple screen
layouts, which can be tailored to the needs of each department.
The workstation software is designed to work with any scanner
